Slip On Flange:
A slip on flange is a bored cylindrical shaped flange that is used to connect valves, pipes, pumps and other equipment to aid in forming a pipe work system. Some benefits of a slip on flange are that it provides easy access for maintenance such as inspection, modification and even cleaning. The typical installation of a slip on flange is to simply slide it over the pipe and then weld it across the diameter of the pipe (fillet welded is the most common form). If the purpose of the slip-on flange is to connect it to another slip-on flange, then the bolt holes are aligned and screwed in using industrial grade bolts.

A blind flange is similar in design (cylindrical shape) to a slip-on flange; however it has a closed-off end and is not bored. The purpose of a blind flange is mainly to seal the ends of valves and pipes. Blind flanges also have bolt holes in order to be bolted down as the final piece of equipment at the end of a pipe system. This flange is used at the end of pipe lines, valves, and pumps. Another usage of the blank flange is for inspection purposes; it will simply unbolt.

Lap Joint Flange:
Lap joint flanges are nearly identical to slip-on flanges with the exception that lap joint flanges have a curved radius at the intersection and face to accommodate a lap joint flange stub end lap joint. Ideally, lap joint flanges are used in pipes that require maintenance such as frequent dissembling, repair, or even replacement. The stub-end insert can be rotated with ease which in return makes aligning the bolts a simple task for the installer/maintenance personnel. Despite their similarity to slip-on flanges, lap joint flanges are not recommended for applications that boast high pressure and high temperature specifications.

Weld Neck Flange:
A weld neck flange is the industries preferred choice of flange due to its ability to withstand extreme pressure. Used mainly when critical applications are needed, this flange’s tapered hub design offers a tremendously strong connection. The greatest characteristic of a weld neck flange is that it can be frequently bent and maneuvered without any compromise to the existing connection and material.
